Buy aerial acrobatics cloth

Aerial silks – also called aerial silks or vertical silks – are the most important piece of equipment for aerial acrobatics. When buying them, you should pay attention to the material, length, and quality.

Material and quality

A good aerial acrobatics fabric consists of:

  • Nylon with stretch: Standard for most cloths, slightly stretchy, good grip
  • Low-stretch nylon: For advanced users, more precise control during drops.
  • Polyester: Cheaper, but less durable

Make sure the hammock has a weight capacity of at least 300 kg and TÜV or CE certification. A high-quality hammock can be recognized by its clean, reinforced seams. Incidentally, there are also special hammocks for aerial yoga, which differ in length and material.

Aerial acrobatics frame, stand & rig

Not everyone has a suitable ceiling for suspension. An aerial acrobatics frame – also called an aerial acrobatics rig or aerial acrobatics stand – offers a freestanding alternative.

Types of aerial acrobatics rigs

Freestanding frames (tripod/A-frame): The most affordable option. An aerial acrobatics stand in an A-frame shape or as a tripod. Height usually 2.5-3.5 meters. Cost: €200-500. Ideal for the garden or large rooms.

Portable rigs: Disassemblable aerial acrobatics rigs for transport. Used by performers for shows. Cost: €400-800.

Professional rigs: Sturdy steel structures for studios and intensive training. A professional aerial acrobatics rig costs €800-1,500, but offers maximum safety and durability.

Important points to consider when buying an aerial acrobatics frame:

• Load capacity at least 300 kg (note dynamic load!)
• Stable feet with weights or floor anchors
• Height appropriate for the discipline (cloth needs more than ring)
• Material: Steel preferred, aluminum only for portable solutions

Build your own aerial acrobatics scaffold

Building your own aerial acrobatics rig is possible, but only with the appropriate expertise. Safety requirements are high – mistakes can lead to serious injuries.

Requirements for self-assembly

If you want to construct an aerial acrobatics rig yourself, you will need:

  • Statics knowledge: Calculation of dynamic loads
  • Welding skills: Stable connections are essential
  • High-quality material: Steel tubes with sufficient wall thickness
  • Professional inspection: Have the completed scaffolding inspected by a professional.

Safety warning: A homemade aerial acrobatics rig must withstand dynamic forces of up to 500 kg. During training, extreme stresses occur due to momentum and drops. If in doubt, a purchased, certified aerial acrobatics rig is the safer choice.

Louisa's tip

If you're handy, you can build a simple A-frame aerial acrobatics rig from scaffolding tubing. You can find plans online. But: It's better to invest the €300-400 in a ready-made rig than to compromise on safety. Your health isn't worth it.

Aerial acrobatics clothing & costume

The right aerial acrobatics clothing is essential for safe and comfortable training. In our aerial acrobatics shop, you'll find specialized training wear tailored to the demands of aerial arts.

Requirements for aerial acrobatics clothing

Good aerial acrobatics clothing must:

  • Fits snugly: No flapping fabric that gets caught in the cloth.
  • Offering freedom of movement: Stretch material for full mobility
  • To allow grip: Certain areas of skin must be free.
  • Be robust: The material must withstand friction against the fabric.

Training clothes vs. aerial acrobatics costume

For training you need functional aerial acrobatics clothing : long leggings (to protect during wrappings), tight-fitting tops with free armpits for grip.

An aerial acrobatics costume for performances is more elaborate – with glitter, special cuts, or accessories. Important: Performance costumes must also be safe, meaning no loose parts that could get caught. Similar clothing requirements apply to other aerial disciplines such as aerial hoop .

Aerial acrobatics with silks for children

A children's aerial acrobatics silk setup differs in some points from adult equipment.

Special features for children

When buying an aerial acrobatics silk for children, keep in mind:

  • Shorter cloth: 4-5 meters is perfectly sufficient for children.
  • Lower mounting: Maximum 1.5 meters above the ground
  • Thicker mats: Crash mats at least 20 cm thick as a base.
  • Narrower width: 2.5 meters is easier for children's hands to grasp.

Age recommendation: Aerial acrobatics for children is recommended from the age of 6 at the earliest, ideally from 8 years old. Children should always train under supervision and first learn the basics in a professional course.

Prices for children's equipment

A children's aerial silk set is often cheaper than adult equipment:

  • Children's towel (4-5m): €40-80
  • Low frame: €150-300
  • Crash mats: €50-150

Quality and safety should always take precedence over price when it comes to aerial acrobatics equipment . A good setup will last for years and protect your health – that's worth every penny.
